Around two-thirds of Americans (65%) disapprove of the way President Donald Trump is handling the U.S. military action in Iran, while a third (33%) approve, according to a new Pew Research Center survey.

The conflict has been unpopular with the American public from the start. But it has grown more so over time: In March, shortly after it began, 61% disapproved of Trump’s handling of the conflict while 37% approved.

We surveyed 5,062 U.S. adults from Sept. 28 to Oct. 4, 2026. Everyone who took part in this survey is a member of the Center’s American Trends Panel. The survey represents the views of the full U.S. adult population.

Here are the survey questions used for this analysis, the detailed responses and the survey methodology.
