Our last insight covered how Independents spend the highest percentage of their daily audio time with podcasts, compared to Republicans and Democrats. After reading that article, you might be asking yourself which podcasts yield the greatest chance of reaching weekly podcast consumers who consider themselves politically Independent. Luckily, Edison Podcast Metrics has the answer for you.
Edison Podcast Metrics’ Efficiency Ranker showcases which titles have the highest percentage of a specific demographic; one of which is political party identification. Subscribers to Edison Podcast Metrics have access to this dashboard and the ability to filter results by Democrats, Republicans, and Independents. Many of the most efficient shows in reaching Independents lean on the edgier side of the content spectrum.

The Jimmy Dore Show has the highest percentage of its weekly audience who identify as Independents, at 65%. The show’s description quotes Patton Oswalt saying, “Jimmy Dore is outrageous and outraged, bothersome and bothered, a crucial, profane, passionate voice for progressives and freethinkers in 21st century America”. Legion of Skanks comes in second place and describes itself as “The Most Offensive Podcast on Earth”. In a very close third is The Blaire White Project, with 55% of its weekly audience identifying as Independent. The show’s host, Blaire White, has been deemed “The Queen of Controversy” by Penthouse Magazine and uses her platform to have “real conversations pertaining to politics, gender, sexuality, world events, and comedy.” The first three shows suggest that Independents favor conversations others might find offensive. Stay Free with Russel Brand is fourth on this list and focuses on anti-establishment events. Best of Car Talk rounds out the top five, a show that completely breaks from our earlier pattern.
